The orchid Lady's slipper (Cypripedium calceolus) prefers mixed deciduous forests with humous limy loamy soils. Because this species and its habitats are threatened in Europe it is declared, in the Council Directive of the European Community on the Conservation of natural habitats and of wild fauna ad flora (Annex II), as a priority species which needs specially protected habitats. The Lady's slipper is in the red list of endangered species of Saxony, category 0, e.g. it is already extinct there.

Nature Conservation Dresden will purchase lands containing habitats of endangered plants to protect them from degradation and destruction.
